Resumo

A história das idéias políticas é um ramo de investigações estabelecido desde, pelo menos, o século XIX. Em meados do século XX, contudo, ela passou a sofrer fortes ataques vindos dos novos desenvolvimentos da filosofia e da lingüística. Alguns historiadores buscaram incorporar aspectos desses avanços na pesquisa do pensamento político, criando assim a Cambridge School of the History of Political Thought. Hoje, anos após o auge daqueles debates, é possível notar que as propostas teóricas e metodológicas da Cambridge School criaram um verdadeiro entrave à pesquisa da história das idéias. Surgida na Alemanha ao mesmo tempo em que a escola inglesa, a Vorstellungsgeschichte se apresenta como uma ‘terceira via’ para o estudo do pensamento de épocas passadas. Baseando-se em uma revolução do paradigma historiográfico, ela propõe um novo olhar sobre o passado que vem complementar o conhecimento sobre as idéias dos homens de outras épocas e apresenta-se como solução a diversos problemas colocados pelos historiadores de Cambridge.
